FreeBSD port for scoop Developer Diary

I've created a FreeBSD port for scoop-0.9. For those of you unfamiliar with the FreeBSD ports system, it basically automates the installation and maintenance of third-party applications. But if you even care about this post, you already knew that. :-)

This port really does little but fetch the scoop distribution and install it into /usr/local/www/. It provides instructions on how to run the install.pl script afterwards.

Importantly, though, the port pulls in all the perl CPAN modules required by scoop. (It also ensures that MySQL, apache, and mod_perl are already installed.) This is how the FreeBSD port system works -- it doesn't rely on the CPAN mechanism.

The port has not yet been reviewed by anyone but me. It is in the queue for review and will be submitted once it passes muster. In the meantime, if there are any FreeBSD'ers out there that want to look at it, the pr with the port is here:

When we upgrade the main LRSE Scoop server to 5.1 (which will be a fresh install, not really an upgrade) I will try this!

when we upgraded our servers, and ran into problems that caused us to have to do everything manually.
