As some of you may or may not know I once ran a website for music lovers called InTune. Over the course of it's life it has had many difficulties with finding a decent host since day one.

In the very beginning I was hosting the site myself via my cable modem connection. Things were going well until the site gained a little momentum which caused my poor little cable router to start misfiring packets and causing many many problems. A few firmware upgrades later the router was finally happy with the traffic it was getting and was able to handle everything quite well.

Shortly after the router was happy the world was plagued by a little worm known as the Code Red Virus. In order to stop the spread of the virus my cable provider started blocking all incoming connections to hosts on their network. Of course since I'm a host on their network all traffic to InTune was thus blocked. They haven't re-opened the ports since.

"Fine", I thought, "I'll just setup a machine here at my office and host it here." That turned out to be the best idea I've had yet. I was able to get my workstation here at work setup with apache, mod_perl, mysql, scoop and all the necessary bits and pieces. After a day or two all InTune traffic was being directed successfully to my workstation here. Things were good, and I thought this was going to be more or less a permanent solution. Guess what! I was wrong. About a month and a half later 2 airplanes managed to slam into the World Trade Center buildings. Unfortunatly for me our ISP here at work has several key routers that were affected by the attacks downtown (my office is further uptown). In fact, our link from them is still down as we speak. I would wait for our service to be restored, but we've since cancelled our contract and we only have a limited number of IPs w/our new provider.

So, I come to you with a plea. Does anyone know of any way I can get InTune back up to at least a semi-permanent status? I've looked into AlterCom, but their prices are a little too steep for me, and ScoopHosting now seems to be defunct. I need something as close to nothing (or nothing at all) cost wise as possible. I'd be more than willing to exchange a "sponsored by" or "hosted by" banner for anyone one willing to provide hosting.

If anyone can help or provide any pointers, assistance or help please contact me either through comments here or via email to chris at console dot org.

Thank you.

Co-location (none / 0) (#1)

If someone has the bandwith but not the resources I can easily arrange to send the server I was using at home to co-locate.

Hosting (none / 0) (#2)

Send me an email and we'll see what we can work out. It would be one of about 4 or 5 small scoop sites on the same server that runs Mahonri.org.

I'm not sure what your bandwidth needs are, but... (none / 0) (#3)

You could look at my hoster- ACS Datanet. They have a plan for a dedicated host (you get root) for $69/mo US, 40GB/mo bandwidth. Not a bad deal. response times have been good for me. (not super fast, but definately acceptable).

Good luck.

The place I work for can do it.... (none / 0) (#4)

I work at Sprocket Data, in Dallas, TX ( www.sprocketdata.com ). We've currently got a special on really inexpensive dedicated servers. They are Pentium 133 boxes, with 64MB RAM and a 1.6 GB hard drive. $149 includes setup and the first 3 months of service. After that, it's only $35 a month. Or, we have colocation starting at $49 a month. Call us at 214.343.8300 if you're interested.

I'm a rather happy customer of Dreamhost. They're MySQL and Perl friendly. Plus they're incredible on the customer service. I think they have plans as cheap as $10/month. I know they host a few sites pro bono.. check it out! ( dreamhost.com )

have you looked at.... (none / 0) (#6)

pair networks ?
verio ?

i have experience with pair, they're the _best_, IMO, for shared hosting. provide MySQL, large bandwidth, etc. affordable hosting, and telnet service. dont expect them to change anything to suit your needs though.
they do have a shared dedicated server option, which though expensive, is very customizable and might be what you're looking for.
their support is excellent and billing is prompt and hassle free.

just my $0.02.
