Search doesn't work on user names containg slahses

When attempting to do a search comments by user "/dev/trash" (like this), it doesn't work.

I get the error:
The requested URL /user//dev/trash/comments was not found on this server.

We've known about it for a while, we're just not sure how to fix it. At least I'm not, maybe Keith or Rusty has an idea. It does work if you url escape the slashes though, to their hex equivalent....
