Where can I get Scoop
You can download the latest release tarball: scoop_1.1.8.tar.gz

You can grab the nightly build. Note: This is generated automatically from the current CVS, and may not be reliable! Get that here: scoop-1.1-nightly.tar.gz

The developers strongly recommend CVS as the primary way to obtain Scoop, since releases tend to have pretty long delays between them. If you have CVS installed, do the following:

cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@ scoop.versionhost.com:/cvs/scoop login

cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@ scoop.versionhost.com:/cvs/scoop co scoop

The above is two commands; each one must be on a single line. When prompted for a password for anonymous, enter 'anonymous' (without the quotes). For more CVS info, "Open Source Development with CVS" is an excellent online reference.

Where can I get help
There are several sources of information and support for Scoop. The first place to look is the scoop-help mailing list. You can browse the archives, or join the list. If you want to post a question, joining the list is strongly recommended. You can also join the #scoop IRC channel on SlashNET.

For documentation, there is the (largely complete) Scoop administrator's guide. You can also read the current README and INSTALL files, from Scoop WebCVS (username and password are both "anonymous"). The admin guide is also included with Scoop, in the doc/ directory.

If you have new feature ideas or requests, or descriptions of something you're working on for Scoop, this site is the place to submit them. You can also search this site for information. If you want to get your hands dirty, or have any questions about developing for Scoop, there is also the Scoop-dev list. You can browse the archives, or join the list.

Bug reports and patches should be filed on the Scoop Bug Muncher.

If you have any problems with this site or your user account, e-mail the Admin

Scoop 0.9 Released Announcements
By panner , Section Project []
Posted on Sat Oct 12, 2002 at 12:00:00 PM PST

After over a year of waiting, the Scoop 0.9 has been released. Look under the "Where can I get Scoop?" box for fresh tarballs. Also, it's available from CVS under the tag scoop-0_9-stable. A list of major new features and bug fixes is attached, along with a few known problems with this release. Many thanks to all that helped with this release; a list of Scoop contributors is in the CREDITS file included with Scoop.

A lot has been changed and improved since Scoop 0.8, and it's recommended that anyone running older versions upgrade. Full instructions are available in the file README.upgrade.

style sheets Feature Requests
By bob , Section Help! []
Posted on Fri Oct 11, 2002 at 12:00:00 PM PST
How would I set up cascading style sheets for use within scoop? This seems a very important step that would allow people to design rich and varied user interfaces. The easier it is to set up scoop from a designers point of view the more people that will use it. Has anyone given this consideration or started to implement a solution?

thanks,

Bob

So, you've installed Scoop Docs

Good job, some people don't even get as far as you just have.  But now that you've got it installed, I'll bet that you want to do something more than the basic setup that Scoop ships with.  This guide is intended to be as non-technical as possible, but still explain how to customize your Scoop site to look exactly like you want it to.

This guide will assume that you already know some HTML, if you don't know that, I would suggest you start with plain HTML before trying to administer a Scoop site.

Open Source Feature Requests

Scoop Blocks need to be more open.

So here is my proposal. Let users view blocks, just make a standard op that displays all the blocks and/or boxes on a site.

In this way we can see how people did that neat stuff they did.

Admin Stats? Feature Requests
By Drog , Section Wishlist []
Posted on Fri Oct 04, 2002 at 12:00:00 PM PST
Are there any plans for an Admin tool to obtain certain site statistics? Like a listing of users, sorted by name or rating. Or the number of active users within a specified time period. That sort of thing.

Why are hotlists not public? Feature Requests

The Hotlist seems like a perfect candidate to be added to the User Information page ("View [username]'s Hotlist").  I've wanted to link people to my Hotlist many times and I can't help but think that many others have felt the same way.

Experimental Scoop Packages for Debian Announcements
By BigNachos , Section Project []
Posted on Wed Oct 02, 2002 at 12:00:00 PM PST
I have recently concocted some Scoop packages for Debian GNU/Linux that are in need of testing and feedback from anyone brave enough to try them. They are highly experimental, and as such, may spawn an unholy demon inside your computer case or make fireworks shoot out of your cat's butt. You have been warned.

Chron 2.0 launches with extensive customization Announcements
By senorbunch , Section New Scoop Sites []

The Edge City Chronicle's version 2.0 BETA has gone live at chron.edgecity.net. This is, as far as I have ever seen, the furthest anyone has deviated from the Scoop templates from a design standpoint. We created new templates to help make Scoop's tools & features more accessible to our less technically-savvy core audience. Love to hear what the Scoop community thinks.
