Installed Scoop on Westhost.com VPS...

A lot of trial and error in this install but I got Scoop to work on a Virtual Private Server account at WestHost.com. First, I cut my teeth on Microsoft, so this was my first real venture into Unix. Got a first rate lesson on SSH, CPAN, CHMOD, TAR, MYSQL, PHP, Perl, FTP -> you name it!. The thing about a VPS install is you do not have root access so you have to do all these tricks to get around not having write access to certain directories. I don't know what impact these changes have on the integrity and security of the website. Any insights will be appreciated. Redhat Linux Apache/1.3.27 Hope this helps... Oh, my site is called blue frog group. Still using the default templates and stylesheets. I'm just now getting into the customizing part so it may go up and down while I develop it.

Installed EXPAT (SSH) Install GNU compiler (manager) Install Perl 5.8.7 (manager) Install mod_perl 1.29 (SSH) used APXS switch Install MySQL (manager) Install DBI (CPAN) Install perlMySQL (Manager) installed LWP (CPAN) useful for fetching files Install Module::Signature (CPAN) useful for varifying fetches (required module Cyrpt::RSA installed via SSH) Install Digest::MD5 (SSH: required changing Makefile DestingationArchLib to /lib/<blah?>) Install Apache::DBI (CPAN) Install Apache::Request (CPAN) Install Apache::Test (CPAN force install) Install Class::Singleton (CPAN) Install Crypt::UnixCrypt (CPAN) Install String::Random (SSH) CPAN failed citing no Makefile exists -> Version 0.21 failed (can't remember why) -> 0.20 worked Install Time::CTime (CPAN) Install Time::Timezone (CPAN) up to date Install Time ParseDate (CPAN) up to date Install Date::Calc (CPAN) Install XML::Parser (CPAN) up to date Install Crypt::CBC (CPAN) required module Crypt::CAST5 was force installed and Crypt::Blowfish_PP installed fine Install Crypt::Blowfish (CPAN) Install XML::RSS (CPAN) cvs's scoop files Install scoop (failed -> cannot connect to database -> manually started mysql server /etc/rc.d/init.d/mysqld start install phpMyAdmin (manager) which required mod PHP 5.1.2 -> connects fine Re-tried scoop install -> changed /etc/my.cnf -> socket from /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock to /tmp/mysql.sock because the latter is the default and that is what DBI was expecting and I couldn't find a way to change DBI settings. Install Aspell 0.60 --exec-prefix=/usr/bin --prefix=/usr/bin Install Aspell dictionary - nope
