Need Some Help Talking To Scoop's MySQL Database New Code

I'm still new to perl hacking and I'm probably way over my head. Nevertheless, I am going to attempt to add a limit to "one story per user" to the mod queue. Naturally, I have no idea whatsoever on where a few things lie and how to use them :)

The things I'm mainly looking for are:

A location of example code in the codebase on how Scoop hooks into the MySQL database

Which table is the mod queue actually stored in

And maybe a link to crash course in how to get MySQL and perl to talk to each other nicely :)

If you can help me out with any of those, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

The mod queue is stored in the stories table, just like all the other stories. The field 'displaystatus' determines where on the site it appears.
