Link within a Story opens new browser? Feature Requests

This is probably a very small feature request, and definately nothing earth shattering, but I figured I would queue it up.

Would it be possible/useful to make links within user submitted stories open in a new browser with just a single click? This is just one of those "really small things that makes life a little easier", since one can usually right click on said link and open it in a new window from a menu.

There could idealy be an option within the users preferences to toggle this feature. If toggled on, a link within a story has the additional code inserted which would open the link in a new window.

I enjoy this feature on other forums I frequent, because it allows me to remain on the same website whilst viewing the content of the link in another browser via a single click.

Use target="_blank" (none / 0) (#1)
by Kjetil on Sun Mar 24, 2002 at 08:36:45 AM PST

Go to your admin area, and find the block named "allowed_html". There you will find this:

A, HREF, NAME, -close

change that into:

A, HREF, NAME, TARGET, -close

Then you can use the target attribute in your links, like in this link to CNN:

a href="http://www.cnn.com/" target="_blank"

Hope this helps.

Reducing reader control considered harmful (none / 0) (#2)

Most browsers support an easy way to open a link in another window or tab (middle button), and even more support it via a right click option.

Very few browsers have settings to ignore this horrible usability breaking pop-up like practice. May I suggest you regularly read Alertbox and learn the fundamentals of usability.

You have asked a very valid question and I too had the same issue while browsing the internet. The assignment writing service also has some suggestions in this regard.

From the convenience perspective the choice to uphold opening connections in new get done homework online windows damages one of the key standards of the client interface outline.
