In anticipation of the immenent release of 0.6, work on a FAQ has begun. Following is a list of possible questions. Please pass on all information (answers) y'all have regarding them, and we'll get this ball rolling.

oh, and since TINK5C, you don't have to call me doc boy :)

* I get "Can't find module blah.pm in @INC", whats that mean?

* I just get a directory listing

* How is scoop different than slash?

* Does it do XYZ? ( XYZ being whatever )

also, let me know about any other questions y'all think belong in the faq.

mike

some more... (none / 0) (#1)

  • what do I need to install scoop? (perl, apache, mod_perl, etc...)
  • Why didn't you use PostgreSQL? (hint: because you haven't ported it yet. )
  • Who works on scoop? (list everyone from the readme, you, mystic, and everyone else I can't think of that sends in patches)
  • What is scoop's aim? What is it trying to be? Can I use it to do XYZ?
  • Whats the latest version?

Those are just a few ideas, just off the top of my head. So they might all not be necessary.

Can I Make Scoop Work With Windows NT? (2.00 / 1) (#2)
by FuzzyOne on Wed Mar 21, 2001 at 12:30:16 AM PST

A good question to add would be:

Can I Make Scoop Work With Windows NT?

Please don't flame me for mentioning Windows NT on here--the value of Scoop is so great to me that I went ahead and made it work with NT 4 despite finding no references to that OS in any of the mailing list archives. That may be a great testimony for the quality and platform-independent content of the INSTALL and README files already provided; however, I think that it might broaden the appeal of Scoop (at least to poor saps like me who are stuck dealing with NT servers) if there's at least a FAQ confirmation that it is possible (and works quite well, actually).

I'm willing to document my experiences if there's interest. What's the best outlet for a concise tips and tricks guide to installing Scoop on NT? Should I just do a story submission here first for feedback?

Missing INSTALL notes (none / 0) (#6)
by ian on Thu Mar 29, 2001 at 05:52:51 PM PST

INSTALL is missing two things: first, it looks to me that XML::RSS depends on XML::Parser, and second, both depend on expat and related libraries (on Debian PowerPC testing, I needed expat, libexpat1, and libexpat-dev).

Now I'm just getting this stupid 'Directory index forbidden by rule: /home/scoop/html/' error 403. foo.

I have a little problem with scoop: (none / 0) (#8)
by terra on Sat Apr 07, 2001 at 11:37:31 PM PST

After configuring and all that crap, I restart apache, and when I go to my page, it gives me some stuff about child process segfaulting. What fun. Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong could be sent to terra@mitsukai.net.

Some more questions. (none / 0) (#9)
by static on Sat Jun 02, 2001 at 12:52:34 AM PST

Well, suggestions.

Installing CPAN modules is a forbidding process to non-Perl programmers, such as me. If it comes together nicely, I'll try to submit some updates to INSTALL.

However, I do have a question: does Apache need to be recompiled? Is there a way to determine if mod-perl has been suitably compiled? (It comes with some distros.)

Wade.
