What is Scoop
|
Scoop is a "collaborative media application". It falls somewhere between a
content management system, a web bulletin board system, and a weblog.
Scoop is designed to enable your website to become a community. It empowers
your visitors to be the producers of the site, contributing news and discussion,
and making sure that the signal remains high.

Where can I get Scoop
|
You can download the latest release tarball: scoop_1.1.8.tar.gz
You can grab the nightly build. Note: This is generated automatically from the current CVS, and may not be reliable! Get that here: scoop-1.1-nightly.tar.gz
The developers strongly recommend CVS as the primary way to obtain Scoop, since releases tend to have pretty long delays between them. If you have CVS installed, do the following:
cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@ scoop.versionhost.com:/cvs/scoop login
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@ scoop.versionhost.com:/cvs/scoop co scoop
The above is two commands; each one must be on a single line. When prompted for a password for anonymous, enter 'anonymous' (without the quotes). For more CVS info, "Open Source Development with CVS" is an excellent online reference.

Where can I get help
|
There are several sources of information and support for Scoop. The first place to look is the scoop-help mailing list. You can browse the archives, or join the list. If you want to post a question, joining the list is strongly recommended. You can also join the #scoop IRC channel on SlashNET.
For documentation, there is the (largely complete) Scoop administrator's guide. You can also read the current
README and
INSTALL files, from Scoop WebCVS (username and password are both "anonymous"). The admin guide is also included with Scoop, in the doc/ directory.
If you have new feature ideas or requests, or descriptions of something you're working on for Scoop, this site is the place to submit them. You can also search this site for information. If you want to get your hands dirty, or have any questions about developing for Scoop, there is also the Scoop-dev list. You can browse the archives, or join the list.
Bug reports and patches should be filed on the Scoop Bug Muncher.
If you have any problems with this site or your user account, e-mail the Admin

"Moderate Previous / Next" Option

Allow me to suggest something to streamline the process of moderation in the story queue: eliminate the need to return to the queue index by supplying a "moderate next / previous submission" link.

auto login (w. cookie) : on/off

Seems that 'remember my name' e.g. auto-login is the default.
For a first time user, you might create a special first-time screen that tells something about the system and makes it possible to toggle on/off autologin

Could the Rate All button when clicked scroll down to the comment you where on when you clicked it?

"There are currently 31 members, and 91 guests online."
Wouldn't it be cool, to have a box that gives you that sort of information? A quick glance to remind you that you are talking to a large global audience.(And should maybe spell check your work)

Anyone interested in LDAP authentication?

Hey, I've written a quickish hack against the 0.6 tarball that:
- uses the realname users field to store a full name (kinda like gecos field)
- uses the nickname as the LDAP UID
- adds an auth option that operates after (uname && pass) and (uname && mail) that assumes that you've authenticated to LDAP via Apache::AuthNetLDAP
- displays the realname on stories and comments, though it falls back to nickname if realname is null

RSS feed in a BOX

I've been poking around with RSS for my scoop site and with the help of hurstdog and a few others have gotten it going pretty well, I think. The next thing I would like to see a box that would display an RSS feed from another site on scoop. Of course, beggers can't be choosers. ;-> Has anyone done this? If so, do you mind sharing?

An option for everything

I hate sections. That's my personal preference. For K5, I've bookmarked the "Everything" section, and many others have done the same. Because it's a personal preference, it would be great if it could be set in the preferences: "Show all stories on the front page?"

Higher ranking for equal scored comments with more votes

Instead of:
- Foo (5.00 / 1)
- Bar (5.00 / 5)
- Baz (5.00 / 1)
- Qux (4.00 / 7)
rate posts with more votes higher than equally scored ones:
- Bar (5.00 / 5)
- Foo (5.00 / 1)
- Baz (5.00 / 1)
- Qux (4.00 / 7)
Ofcourse, eventually placing posts ranked highly by trusted users higher, or having a minimum number of votes before high placement, would be nice.
