Where can I get Scoop
You can download the latest release tarball: scoop_1.1.8.tar.gz

You can grab the nightly build. Note: This is generated automatically from the current CVS, and may not be reliable! Get that here: scoop-1.1-nightly.tar.gz

The developers strongly recommend CVS as the primary way to obtain Scoop, since releases tend to have pretty long delays between them. If you have CVS installed, do the following:

cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@ scoop.versionhost.com:/cvs/scoop login

cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@ scoop.versionhost.com:/cvs/scoop co scoop

The above is two commands; each one must be on a single line. When prompted for a password for anonymous, enter 'anonymous' (without the quotes). For more CVS info, "Open Source Development with CVS" is an excellent online reference.

Where can I get help
There are several sources of information and support for Scoop. The first place to look is the scoop-help mailing list. You can browse the archives, or join the list. If you want to post a question, joining the list is strongly recommended. You can also join the #scoop IRC channel on SlashNET.

For documentation, there is the (largely complete) Scoop administrator's guide. You can also read the current README and INSTALL files, from Scoop WebCVS (username and password are both "anonymous"). The admin guide is also included with Scoop, in the doc/ directory.

If you have new feature ideas or requests, or descriptions of something you're working on for Scoop, this site is the place to submit them. You can also search this site for information. If you want to get your hands dirty, or have any questions about developing for Scoop, there is also the Scoop-dev list. You can browse the archives, or join the list.

Bug reports and patches should be filed on the Scoop Bug Muncher.

If you have any problems with this site or your user account, e-mail the Admin

Top Hotlisted Box Boxes
By panner , Section Code []
Posted on Tue Jul 31, 2001 at 12:00:00 PM PST

Recently, on k5 there was a discussion about disabling the Anonymous Hero. That story brought up several threads about the advantages and disadvantags of doing so. This, however, has nothing to do with that.

Instead, it relates to a specifc thread, in which ramses0 brought up his idea for a top hotlisted box. Not wanting to let an opportunity for a perfectly good box slip by, I managed to write one in about 15 minutes. The entire thing in (from what I can tell) working form is below. Just goes to show the power of boxes in Scoop :)

Who's Online Box Boxes
By panner , Section Code []
Posted on Thu Jul 05, 2001 at 12:00:00 PM PST

For anyone that wants such a thing (and you know you do!), here's a box that displays who's currently online. Note that it's not 100% accurate or anything, it just makes the assumption that anyone thats done something in the last 30 minutes it online.

Update [2001-7-5 17:50:30 by panner]: The box has been updated. See here.

Update [2001-7-6 0:59:58 by panner]: Updated, once again. Some errors started popping up, and those led to bugs that lead back into Scoop, but I think they're all ironed out. If you've gotten this box before now, you should probably get it again.

Update [2001-7-9 23:53:31 by rusty]: The story that never ends! I've edited the box again, to respect a "cloak me" preference, and to do some totaling.

Distinguishing between comments and signatures Feature Requests
By Andrew Dvorak , Section Code []
Posted on Fri Jun 08, 2001 at 12:00:00 PM PST

I'm positive that this is probably the easiest request to implement, but maybe it would be a feature welcomed by the masses to be implemented in the base code.

What if user comments were to be enclosed in HTML comments that distinguish between the body of a user's comments and the user's signature.

The CPAN Scoop Install Blues. Docs
By static , Section Code []
Posted on Mon Jun 04, 2001 at 12:00:00 PM PST
As you will all know, Scoop is written in Perl. It also depends on a dozen or so modules from a Perl module archive called CPAN. And it's hell on installers when 3rd party modules you depend on change a little underneath you. This is my story of installing Scoop.

Template module Feature Requests
By r4f , Section Code []
Posted on Wed Mar 07, 2001 at 12:00:00 PM PST
Hi,
I just discovered Scoop today, and I wonder why you (developpers of Scoop) didn't choose to use a Perl Template module (like HTML::Template) to implement them.
