Where can I get Scoop
You can download the latest release tarball: scoop_1.1.8.tar.gz

You can grab the nightly build. Note: This is generated automatically from the current CVS, and may not be reliable! Get that here: scoop-1.1-nightly.tar.gz

The developers strongly recommend CVS as the primary way to obtain Scoop, since releases tend to have pretty long delays between them. If you have CVS installed, do the following:

cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@ scoop.versionhost.com:/cvs/scoop login

cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@ scoop.versionhost.com:/cvs/scoop co scoop

The above is two commands; each one must be on a single line. When prompted for a password for anonymous, enter 'anonymous' (without the quotes). For more CVS info, "Open Source Development with CVS" is an excellent online reference.

Where can I get help
There are several sources of information and support for Scoop. The first place to look is the scoop-help mailing list. You can browse the archives, or join the list. If you want to post a question, joining the list is strongly recommended. You can also join the #scoop IRC channel on SlashNET.

For documentation, there is the (largely complete) Scoop administrator's guide. You can also read the current README and INSTALL files, from Scoop WebCVS (username and password are both "anonymous"). The admin guide is also included with Scoop, in the doc/ directory.

If you have new feature ideas or requests, or descriptions of something you're working on for Scoop, this site is the place to submit them. You can also search this site for information. If you want to get your hands dirty, or have any questions about developing for Scoop, there is also the Scoop-dev list. You can browse the archives, or join the list.

Bug reports and patches should be filed on the Scoop Bug Muncher.

If you have any problems with this site or your user account, e-mail the Admin

Scoop 1.1.8 Released -- Users Urged to Upgrade New Code
By Captain_Tenille , Section News []
Posted on Sun Aug 13, 2006 at 12:00:00 PM PST
This is a security fix release of Scoop. It fixes a bug in edit_story where users are allowed to edit their own stories, a bug in story posting, and some cross site scripting vulnerabilities. If you are upgrading, some boxes need to be upgraded by hand. Look at the file UPGRADING-TO-1.1.8.txt for full details.

Scoop 1.1.7 Released Announcements
By Captain_Tenille , Section News []
Posted on Tue May 09, 2006 at 12:00:00 PM PST
This is a subminor release of Scoop, with some bugfixe. In the future, we'd like to get in the habit of making little point releases like this more often between the more major releases, so the changes aren't as drastic.

The main reason this release is being made right now, though, right before we expect to start making prerelease candidates for Scoop 1.2 is that this will probably be the last release of Scoop that will only have support for Apache 1.3.x. After this, Scoop will support both Apache 1.3.x and Apache 2.0, so it was decided that there should be a definite point where Apache 2.0 support was added. After this release is that point.

Scoop 1.1.7 can be downloaded as scoop_1.1.7.tar.gz.

The list archives for scoop-help, scoop-dev, and scoop-checkins have been restored back to the beginnings of the respective lists. (In the case of scoop-help, this is April, 2000.)

Apologies to anybody attempting to search the list archives for help with Scoop in the months they were not available.

Scoop 1.1 Release Candidate 2c Out Announcements
By Captain_Tenille , Section News []
Posted on Sun Jan 15, 2006 at 12:00:00 PM PST
It's true: the second release candidate for Scoop 1.1 is now available. This should be the last RC before Scoop 1.1 is released. If you are interested, please download it and test it out to help us find any bugs that might still be lurking in it.

There will be a three week waiting period between this RC and the final release. Barring any major issues, Scoop 1.1 should be released then.

Thanks for your patience. Who knows, maybe Scoop 1.2 will be released sometime this year as well?

Update [2006-1-15 15:55:11 by Captain_Tenille]: Oops, forgot to update the scoop.sql file before tagging RC2. Thus, the link is now to RC2abc. Sorry about that. If you downloaded the old RC 2, make sure that you add patch-30-TagEnhancements (and patch-31-TagPermUpdate). Thanks.

Update [2006-1-15 16:9:49 by Captain_Tenille]: Gah, the patch table was out of sync with the patches. That's now updated, so upgrading the DB won't cause tons of errors. Went and fixed a couple of little things for RC2c while I was at it.

Adman, The Friendly Ad Manager Announcements
By coryking , Section News []
Posted on Fri Nov 04, 2005 at 12:00:00 PM PST
I dont know about you, but managing all the different adsense channels on my websites is a big pain in the ass. Not only do I have many different channels defined in google, but I'm starting to find that registered users need to be fed different ads then the anonymous users. This is a lot to keep track of!

Ad Manager (adman) is my attempt to help manage the ad inventory found on any large scoop site.

There are two box files: adman_showads adman_admin

CMS Matrix Announcements
By kpaul , Section News []

Not sure if this is the place to post this, but I came across CMS Matrix tonight. I think the site needs a Scoop Wizard to clue the masses in on Scoop. MT, Drupal and others are represented there. IT could drum up more interest in Scoop, no?
